Planning a trip aboard a cruise line is a great way to vacation and see new places. Below are a few things to consider in preparation for taking your first cruise.

1. Book your shore excursions in advance. Excursions can be booked before your cruise, either through the companies offering the excursion or the cruise line. It’s best to book ahead, as excursions can sell out.
2. Pack a carry-on bag to use when you first board your ship. Pack any hats, clothing, medicine, cameras, and sunscreen you may need to use during your first afternoon on the cruise ship, since luggage typically arrives at cabins between 4 and 9 pm.
3. Use the online check-in process to save time boarding. Refer to your travel documents, as you’ll need this information to print your boarding pass. Checking in online allows you to print luggage tags for your bags and select the time frame you anticipate arriving at the port.
